Indonesia is smiling over Vietnam's injuries, but that smile could crack at any moment

Hours ago, Indonesian media were in unison over the injuries of Van Vi, Hoang Duc and Duy Manh ahead of the FIFA ASEAN Cup. No match has been played, but across many sports sites in the archipelago, a victory outside the pitch is being drawn. From a tactical angle, I notice that when a team loses two or three key players at once, they do not die; they become harder to predict. Kim Sang Sik is a pragmatic coach. When he no longer has individuals who can create moments alone, he will restructure the squad toward tighter defence and faster transitions into less expected areas. The more Indonesia push forward, the more space they leave behind. And a Vietnam without Hoang Duc and Van Vi could choose direct counter-attacks, bypassing the midfield stage – a scenario Indonesia should fear rather than celebrate.
